As you may remember, I lost my 19-year-old cat this summer. We still have our beloved Golden Retriever, who is 10 1/2 years old. But I was really missing a small, snuggly pet. I inquired with the breeder of my parents’ dog about getting on a future litter list. It turned out she had a 2-year-old who perfectly met our size and temperment criteria. A few weeks later, Jake, a Cavapoo (1/2 Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, 1/2 Poodle — sometimes called “Cavadoodle”) arrived from Oklahoma. He is a FABULOUS dog, who gets along wonderfully with our kids and our Golden and is exactly what we were hoping for.

Jake arrived with a pretty bad haircut – and by hair cut, I mean complete shave down. (He’s supposed to look fluffy, like my parents’ dog, as seen in this old post.) So in an effort to help cover up the bad ‘do, I knit Jake a sweater:

I used the same pattern I used when I knit for my parents’ dog way back when, as seen here. Jake enjoys wearing the sweater so I see more dog-sweater knitting in my future. A fair isle sweater would be a great way to use up scraps. Having Jake around has also livened up my 365 Project photos.

One of my dearest dreams is that when we move, somehow I will become able to have a dog again.

Cute! How do you do the yellow on the cast-on edge – pick up stitches and then bind them off right away? It looks good.
