The third word in my blog subtitle is “creativity.” Though knitting has become my primary creative outlet (er, obsession…let’s be honest), I have explored and continue to explore other vehicles — sewing (dis-aaaaster!), watercolor, cooking, baking, scrapbooking (so stereotypical geeky mom but I hope you won’t judge me) — some of which will be blogged about down the road.

I love looking at great photos, especially those candid, capture-the-emotion, moment-in-time photos. (Lolly has some great examples of these.) I recently borrowed a camera from my parents to test my own abilities in this area. Here are some recent shots:

This photo is so San Francisco to me -- the Follow Me on the homeless guy's shirt, the fact that he's on a cell phone, the Prius parked beside him

Incidentally (in case you’re wondering), given that I’m a writer by profession, fiction writing has of course been a creative outlet of mine throughout the years. I’ve written two novels — one absolutely atrocious and one that was decent enough for an agent to ask to see it again after some revisions. Those revisions took a back burner to mothering and by the time I got around to it again, I felt the story was sort of outdated. I have, however, a decent outline for a new story. But my enthusiasm ebbs and flows, primarily because writing is my job and the last thing I feel like doing at the end of the day is sitting back down at the computer. Enter: knitting. Working with colors and textures and choosing and adapting patterns — now that’s a fun way to spend an evening. (Stop laughing…) I am hopeful, however, that this blog will be a great way to combine writing and the other creative outlets that inspire me.
